Short Summary:

Omo valley region presents unique cultural experiences that have remained unchanged in this modern area. This trip will take you through small towns like Arbaminch, Konso, Jinka and Turmi. Depend on the specific travel dates of yours, we will arrange this trip to connect with at least one of the weekly market of the Key Afer, Demeka or Turmi!

 

DAY 1: Arrival and Addis Ababa City Tour

Arrive in Addis Ababa; Bole International airport in the morning, meet the assigned guide and transfer to your reserved Hotel (if early check is available). Then go sightseeing tour of Addis Ababa which includes the Ethnological Museum in the former palace of King Hailesillassie, the National Museum, the superb Holy Trinity Cathedral and various historical monuments of Addis Ababa.

DAY 2: Drive – Ziway – Arbaminch

In the morning drive to Lake Ziway to visit some birds and then proceed to Arbaminch. This lake has five Islands of which at least three of them were the site of medieval churches.

DAY 3: Alduba Market – Turmi

With the intention of catching Tuesday market at Alduba drive straight to Turmi. This market brings the Hammar, Benna and sometimes Tsemay People together. In the afternoon, you visit a typical Hammer Village around Turmi.

DAY 4: Excursion to Omorate

Excursion drives to Omorate to visit the Dassanach people (Tribes) and their village which is situated on the other side of the Omo River. Then, leave the heart of the Hamar land across Dimeka and Key Afar to Jinka.

DAY 5: Excursion Mursi village

Excursion drive to the fascinating Mursi people whose women adore wearing geometrical lip plates in the slits of their lower lips. The drive to the village of these people takes you in the heart of Mago National Park. Then, drive down via the Tsemay land and gazing over the terraced hills of the Konso to Konso. If this day happens to be Thursday and if time permits en-route, you will visit the colorful Key Afar Market of the Banna, the Tsemay and the Ari people with their local agricultural products.

DAY 6: Konso – Chamo Lake

In the morning, you visit Konso terraced hills, the Konso’s chief compound and his chiefly artifacts. The Konso people are famous for their traditional terracing system and Waka Totem (Grave Wooden Totem). Proceed to Arbaminch and in the afternoon you will have boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit some herds of hippo, aquatic birdlife, and huge sunbathing crocodiles on its shore.

DAY 7: Return to Addis Ababa and Depart

In the morning, drive to the highland people of Dorze. Here, you visit their excellent beehive shaped bamboo houses, fertile grounds of false banana and colorful waving products. Then, drive back to Addis Ababa. Finally, transfer to the airport for your departure flight back to home or stay in Addis Ababa.
