About us

Our Story:

Access Eco Trekking Tours is an eco-friendly trekking and community-based local tour and travel company located in Addis Ababa and Lalibela.

We aim to create tour and travel opportunities for travelers to Ethiopia’s historical, cultural, natural and adventure destinations. When traveling in our local communities, we focus on their tradition, history, culture, daily activities and lifestyles.

Access Eco Trekking Tours was established in 2008 by “Kanu,” a young, passionate man from Lalibela who loves and respects Mother Nature. He enjoys showing visitors the hidden beauty of his country and can arrange for visits to any place and in any style that you want to go in Ethiopia.

If trekking is of interest, we can arrange mountain treks in the Simien and/or Bale National Parks. You can trek for as many days as you want with as much assistance as you would like. If you would prefer just to drive through these beautiful areas that is also possible.

In Southern Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, you can visit with nomadic people and/or spend time at the beautiful lakeside city of Debra Zeit, Langano, Ziway or Awassa, . In Northern Ethiopia you can explore the wonderful landscapes; the famous rock-hewn churches of Lalibela; the castles of Gondar and other historically-rich areas, including the former home of the Queen of Sheba in Axum. In Eastern Ethiopia, you will find the old walled city of Harar. To the north of it is the Danakil Depression (Erta Ale), one of the lowest and hottest places on earth.

Our tour company seeks to be responsible to the society and the environment in which we work and live. We work diligently to support the local communities to which we travel. Thirty percent of our income goes to the communities in which we work. Whenever possible, we rent community lodges for our accommodations and buy local foods and supplies. We also employ local guides. When trekking, we hire local food providers, cooks, scouts and mule handlers.

Our other support goes to a remote local community elementary school, so that the students there have school supplies each year. Additionally, we help to provide solar lights to houses in villages where there is no electricity and participate in the community’s annual tree-planting program.

Ethiopia has many talented artists and craftspeople. In addition to making their work available to our clients, we also organize an art exhibition in Lalibela each year.

We look forward to hearing from you. We would be happy to help you discover the natural beauty, long history and the interesting and wonderful people of Ethiopia.
